Updated Schedule for Community Electronics Recycling Events with 406 Recycling Hosted at Good Samaritan Thrift Store — Sept 27 & Nov 15th Next Events in 2024

406 Recycling’s community electronics recycling event at Good Samaritan will be moving toward a semi-annual schedule, according to owner Matt Elsaesser. Citing staffing shortages, attendance trends, and shifts in the recycling industry, 406 Recycling has decided to make this change to better serve the Helena community. Limited drop-off options will be available, but only by appointment and with a $50 minimum.

The next is scheduled for America Recycles Day, November 15th, from 10 am to 6 pm. Other drop-off opportunities will be posted at 406Recycling.com, through the company’s email list, and their Facebook page. “Many people have been able to deplete their existing stockpile of old computers and related items,” Elsaesser noted.” The need for a secure drop-off option remains, he continued.

“We’re hoping to formalize pricing and create convenient drop off options with a minimal charge sometime in the near future,” says Haley McKnight, communications coordinator for 406 Recycling. “Our priority right now is to serve businesses and institutions.” Companies with electronics to recycle or needing data destruction can schedule a pickup or dropoff at 406Recycling.com or by texting 406.431.0815 with a picture of the electronics to be recycled.

Charges for electronics recycling go toward processing materials so they can be responsibly recycled, shipped, and (in some cases) have dangerous substances like mercury removed from screens. Many electronics, even older computers, have batteries that need to be removed and handled separately. Data security often requires the removal and destruction of hard drives and data storage devices.

“These events provide a community outlet, and have been successful at diverting tons of waste for years now,” says Elsaesser. 406 Recycling is currently hiring, and interested job seekers can apply on Indeed or at their website, 406Recycling.com.
