406 Recycling’s community electronics recycling event at Good Samaritan will not be happening this Friday. The next collection event will occur Friday, September 27th, at Good Samaritan Thrift Store from 10 am to 6 pm. The company is moving their events to a semi-annual schedule to better serve the community while they search for a more permanent option. This also allows the company to focus on serving businesses and institutions. Drop-off options are available at the 406 Recycling warehouse, but only by appointment and with a $50 minimum.
There is a community electronics recycling event scheduled for America Recycles Day, November 15th, from 10 am to 6 pm. Other drop-off opportunities will be posted at 406Recycling.com, through the company’s email list, and their Facebook page. “Many people have been able to deplete their existing stockpile of old computers and related items, especially TVs and monitors,” Elsaesser noted.” The need for a secure drop-off option remains, he continued. Due to time constraints, home pickups will not be scheduled until October. You can stay updated on electronics recycling by joining their newsletter through the link on their website. This email list is private and is not shared with third parties.
“We’re hoping to formalize pricing and create convenient drop off options with a minimal charge sometime in the near future,” says Haley McKnight, communications coordinator for 406 Recycling. “Our priority right now is to serve businesses and institutions.” Companies with electronics to recycle or needing data destruction can schedule a pickup or dropoff at 406Recycling.com or by calling or texting 406.449.6008. Business collections can typically be scheduled within one to two business days.
Charges for electronics recycling go toward processing materials so they can be responsibly processed for recycling, shipped, and (in some cases) have dangerous substances like mercury, lead, and other hazardous materials removed. Many electronics, even older computers, have batteries that need to be removed and handled separately. Data security often requires the removal and destruction of hard drives and data storage devices. These events are not subsidized by tax dollars. Any individuals unhappy with these fees are asked to be polite to staff and recognize that these events are provided as an outlet for the community. Please note that due to data security reasons, no items will be sold at these events.
“These events provide a community outlet, and have been successful at diverting tons of waste for years now,” says Elsaesser.
Accepted Items
A $10 donation to Good Samaritan is greatly encouraged and appreciated. Please note: this list is not exhaustive, but includes commonly recycled items. If you have questions about an item, contact us at contact@406recycling.com or 406.449.6008.
406 Recycling’s community electronics recycling event at Good Samaritan will be moving toward a semi-annual schedule, according to owner Matt Elsaesser. Citing staffing shortages, attendance trends, and shifts in the recycling industry, 406 Recycling has decided to make this change to better serve the Helena community. Limited drop-off options will be available, but only by appointment and with a $50 minimum.

We’ve had a great Summer events season, most recently at the Red Ants Pants Festival in White Sulphur Springs. We had about 20 volunteers and staff in our Green Ants crew, diverting hundreds of pounds of recycling and compost from the waste stream. Many vendors utilized compostable to-go containers and utensils, signalling a promising change in consumer attitudes toward sustainable single-use products and a good outlook for an all-compostables mandate next year.
Students from Carroll, members of the Boy Scouts, and the Helena Young Professionals helped us clean up Symphony Under the Stars in record time this year! Improved signage, strategic recycling locations, volunteer partnerships, and education efforts really made the difference this year in keeping the grounds clean.
We continue our partnership with Outlaw Partners this year in Big Sky. This weekend we’ll see thousands flood the Big Sky Events Arena for artists like Maren Morris, Lukas Nelson, and more at Wildlands Festival. Our zero-waste crew is prepared! With help from local residents and YES Compost, as well as an all-compostable mandate for all food vendors, cleanup at the Arena has gotten better and better.
